Celebrating Community: The Heart of ENNS

Perry Common Community Hall was fully charged with the spirit of a community that truly cares for its own during the Erdington Neighbourhood Network Scheme (ENNS) celebration event.

More than 50 local community champions, volunteers and partners attended. The focus was on the life-changing services the ENNS is delivering to support older and vulnerable residents.

Why the ENNS Matters

ENNS is managed by Witton Lodge Community Association in partnership with Compass Support. It acts as an anchor to ensure resources are deployed to support grassroots needs.

The ENNS empowers local people to create and deliver services that help reduce isolation and improve physical and mental wellbeing. It does this by providing funding and capacity-building support to smaller community groups.

Impact in Action

During the event, a number of people from ENNS funded organisations shared powerful stories of how their services are benefitting residents: Key successes include:

  • Combatting Loneliness: Creating safe and accessible spaces for older adults to socialise and stay active.

  • Empowering Independence: Offering bespoke support for adults with additional needs.

  • Strengthening Roots: Building the capacity of small community-focussed groups so they can continue to serve Erdington for years to come.

The Power of People

Special praise was reserved for volunteers who help to drive the ENNS forward with their roles on  funding panels and steering groups. These men and women ensure that every penny is directed toward supporting the community’s most pressing needs.

Waheed Saleem, Head of Programmes and Partnerships at Witton Lodge, noted: The event highlighted the strength and impact of community action across Erdington.

“The passion and commitment shown by local groups was clear, and it reinforces the importance of strong partnership working.
“Through our role as an anchor organisation, and in partnership with Birmingham City Council Adult Social Care, we are proud to support community groups to access funding and deliver meaningful local impact.”

A high energy atmosphere was underpinned with live music and a visual illustration by artist Anna Gayer.
