Jobs Fair Connects Erdington Employers and Job Seekers
St Barnabas Church on Erdington High Street was transformed into a thriving employment and training hub on Tuesday, June 30th, as Witton Lodge Community Association (WLCA) hosted its summer Jobs Fair.
The event was a resounding success, bringing together 22 employers and training providers and more than 100 local jobseekers for a day of networking, connection and opportunity.
“Tuesday’s Jobs Fair underlines our continued commitment to driving economic growth and employment and training opportunities for our communities,” said Waheed Saleem, Head of Programmes and Partnerships at WLCA.
“I am pleased that 22 local employers and training providers supported the event, which underlines our partnerships. For too many residents they face multiple barriers accessing employment and training opportunities. The jobs fair is a great way of bringing these opportunities to the local community.”
Breaking Barriers
Marcia Lewis, Employer and Enterprise Advisor at WLCA, said: “In today’s digital-first world, finding a job can often feel impersonal and isolating.
“That’s exactly why community-led events like this one are so important. Bringing companies directly into a community space helps to break down traditional barriers to employment.”
Organisations from a diverse range of sectors were represented at the fair, including those from healthcare, construction, administration, hospitality and warehousing.
Major employers and agencies including Summerhill Services Ltd, Pertemps and Skills 4 Care were in the room to speak with job seekers, review their CVs and facilitate direct applications for live roles.
Supporting the Event
The success of the day highlights the incredible power of partnership and local enthusiasm.
People attending the Jobs Fair also received free, one-to-one guidance from WLCA’s own dedicated Employment and Skills Team.
