Break the Smoking Habit with Witton Lodge!

Calling all smokers in Erdington and Sutton Coldfield, if you’ve thought about quitting, help is now at your fingertips!

Smoking impacts not only your health, but also your relationships, finances, and even your social life. That’s why Witton Lodge Community Association has launched Break the Habit, a free personalised smoking cessation programme, running until March 2026, delivered in partnership with Public Health and Birmingham City Council.

The programme is tailored to each participant’s individual circumstances, offering a supportive plan tailored to their needs, the flexibility to set their own Quit Date, guidance on healthier lifestyle choices, and ongoing encouragement to keep them on track.

Join the Birmingham Community Action Network

Anchor organisations across Birmingham are being invited to join the recently launched Birmingham Community Action Network (B:CAN), a collaboration designed to revitalise neighbourhoods and deliver lasting impact.

Already making a difference through projects such as B:CAN Energy and B:CAN Mental Health, the network is expanding to welcome new community organisations, funders, and partners.

WLCA Chief Officer and B:CAN Chair Afzal Hussain said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity to not only strengthen the B:CAN network and reach more residents but to make new connections and access funding opportunities.”

Applications are now open for Birmingham-based groups to apply as either Members or Affiliates.

Local Families Benefit from School Uniform Initiative

In the back-to-school lead up, WLCA proudly supported the School Uniform initiative, first envisioned by PC Faye Purcell of Kingstanding Police and coordinated with the help of Vision For All, Perry Common Community Watch, and Remmer Restaurants (McDonald’s Erdington).

An appeal to local families invited children aged 5 to 11 to collect school essentials including uniforms, bags, stationery and pencil cases. Within 24-hours, all stock had been claimed, with over 50 families receiving essentials, evidence of just how vital the support was.

With the average cost of a primary school uniform now over £340, Witton Lodge Community Association is proud to have helped families ease the financial burden and ensure children could start the new school year with confidence.
