Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes for Volunteering Week 2026

June 1, 2026
 /

Volunteers are the beating heart of Witton Lodge Community Association (WLCA). Over the years we have been proud and privileged to welcome many selfless people into the WLCA family who have given – and continue to give – their time to support us helping others.

From running community quizzes to serving food and drinks to visitors, from helping clean and landscape the local environment to packing and delivering food parcels, from taking people on sensory walks and bicycle rides to making befriending calls; our volunteers have made a real difference to community life and in the lives of local residents.

So, as Volunteers Week 2026 begins, it is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on volunteering. While it is, undeniably, a gift to others it is also one of the most powerful gifts you can give to yourself. Volunteering is a true superpower for your personal and professional growth. And here’s why.

Learn New Skills

Volunteering is a toolbox for development. Whether you are looking for your first job or a new one, aiming to move into a new sector, return to work or climb the career ladder, it provides the practical experience you don’t get in a classroom. You’ll sharpen your transferable skills and improve your knowledge of different job roles and industries.

Boost Your Confidence

Doing something new to support a cause is a proven confidence builder. By tackling new challenges, taking on unfamiliar tasks and seeing the impact of your efforts can help you develop a fresh sense of self-belief. This renewed confidence can spill over into your personal and professional life.

Connecting to Community

In an increasingly digital world, volunteering offers something human and personable.  Collaborating with individuals from all generations and all walks of life creates authentic connections. You can make new friendships, build a diverse network of mentors, peers and contacts who can open doors to new opportunities and experiences.

Volunteering isn’t just about you giving back, it’s about you growing and moving forward. So, this Volunteers’ Week, why not take a leap and find a cause that speaks to you and ignites your potential.
