In the News – August Erdington Local
The August issue of Erdington Local is out now!
Love Your Local Community Event
The WLCA team enjoyed a fantastic day at the Love Your Local Community event on Erdington High Street in July. Dozens of residents stopped by to chat, hear about our services, and discover the support available locally. A huge thank you to Erdington BID for organising such a brilliant occasion that brought neighbours, groups, and organisations together!
Building Strong Partnerships to Improve Life for Local Residents
We were thrilled to welcome Sally Burns, Birmingham’s new Director of Public Health, to Perry Common Community Hall. Her visit was a valuable opportunity to introduce the work we do at Witton Lodge and to share our aims around health, wellbeing, and supporting residents. Sally also learnt more about the Birmingham Community Action Network (B:CAN), which is helping to strengthen collaboration across the city.
We also welcomed Simon Foster, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner. Our conversations focused on issues that matter most to local residents. From the Decent Neighbourhood Standard Report and youth engagement, to community safety and crime prevention, the visit helped us explore how we can continue working together for safer, stronger communities.
Community Voice: Local People Leading Change
Community Voice is a resident-led group dedicated to improving services and strengthening neighbourhood life. Driven by residents with a passion for their community, the group provides a vital platform to shape local priorities.

Have Fun and Learn New Skills this Active August
This August has been all about fun, activity, and creativity at the Witton Lakes Eco Hub (off Faulkners Farm Drive, B23 7XX). Families have been enjoying arts and crafts, gardening workshops, and plenty of outdoor activities, from Scavenger Hunts to hands-on sessions in our brand new Makers Yard!
With games, workshops, food, and nature events running throughout August, there’s been something for everyone to enjoy.
Bulls Trail Making Moooves!
The Bulls in the City art trail has added a burst of colour to Birmingham this summer, featuring 40 large bulls and 88 calves designed by talented local artists. Witton Lodge is proud to sponsor two of these stunning sculptures by the talented duo, Reilly Creative.
Our bold bull, Work Hard Play Hard, is standing tall outside Boldmere Methodist Church, while our calf, Rebull, is catching eyes at Millennium Point. Not only is the trail bringing people together through creativity, but it is also raising vital funds for Birmingham Hospice.
Don’t forget, you can download the special app to scan each sculpture’s QR code and unlock hidden rewards!
