The Friends of Witton Lakes (FOWL) will be helping to celebrate the impact and contribution of volunteers during a special anniversary walk through Birmingham.

On Sunday 10th August, lots of people are expected to take part in the Birmingham Open Spaces Forum Summer Baton walk, being held to celebrate the organisations 20th anniversary.

Members of FOWL, including Linda Hines MBE, Chair of Witton Lodge Community Association, will be among those taking part.

The walk began on Sunday August 3rd and will continue weekly, culminating on August 24th.

It will journey through various locations, stopping at many parks and green spaces. The aim of the event is to engage with volunteer groups and learning about their experiences.

Established in 2009, FOWL is a group of local volunteers dedicated to the upkeep of Witton Lakes Eco Hub and Park.

Linda said: “We are thrilled to have been invited to take part in this wonderful celebration of volunteers and the great work they do. Volunteers breathe energy into our communities and their impact on improving places and spaces should never be underestimated. They are the unsung heroes.”
