Bursary Empowers Erdington’s Youth

The Ladders of Opportunity Bursary returned for it’s second round of funding, offering recipients guidance and financial support to help them reach their career aspirations. The bursary, which was established in memory of Erdington MP Jack Dromey and Councillor Penny Holbrook, had an incredible increase in applications with 23 young individuals receiving a combined total of £20,000 to support diverse career goals such as dentistry, teaching, nursing and engineering.

The bursary is a collaborative effort funded by partners BMet college, IM Properties, The Pioneer Group, Urban Devotion and Witton Lodge Community Association. The joint effort not only provides funding, but also allows for vital mentorship and coaching opportunities for the recipients.

The North Birmingham Social Enterprise Cluster announced the initiative will take place from November 2024 through to March 2025. Participants can look forward to a series of engaging workshops over the five-month duration, along with fantastic networking opportunities to collaborate with fellow businesses and community groups. This programme is open to entrepreneurs, micro and small social enterprises, and community groups operating in and around North Birmingham.
