The second in a series of discovery workshops saw local jobseekers learn about employment opportunities within the National Health Service.

Friday’s event, held at Perry Common Community Hall, saw NHS Programme Tutor, Peter Forsland, showcase a range of job roles and training schemes. He also talked about the support NHS employees receive in order to progress in their careers and develop new skills.

Feedback from those who attended was very positive and helped to change people’s perception of the NHS. Comments included: “The workshop was informative and gave some insight into the many roles available with the NHS.”

Another candidate commented, “There are a lot of choices and it gave me a lot more to think about. I was thinking about cleaning but now I’m thinking about being a housekeeper or even a nurse.”

There is good career progression and staff are supported so they have choices to gain valuable experience,” said another.

Marcia Lewis, Employment Tutor at Witton Lodge’ said: “We had a really good turn out and the session was informative and engaging.

“It’s great to see employers like the NHS working with local communities to find talented and motivated individuals; giving residents the chance to explore meaningful employment and career opportunities.”

The next discovery workshop is scheduled for June. More details will follow shortly.
