Winvic Showcases Construction Opportunities
Local job seekers interested in a career in construction attended a special Meet the Employer event at Witton Lodge Community Association today.
Staff from Winvic Construction Ltd were on hand to deliver an information session around finding work in the industry and the skills needed for a range of roles, including site manager.
Social Value Manager at Winvic, Emma Rhymes, who has been working alongside IM Properties in support of the Peddimore employment park development, said the company is keen to recruit local people.
“The local community is rich in talent and we are always keen to receive applications from people with ambition to work in construction and help make transformative change happen,” she said.
She was joined at the event by site manager Alex Berry, of Collins Earthworks, who provided an insight into his own journey with the Northampton based contractor, to inspire others to access opportunities
Attendee Susan Grimshaw said: “It was very interesting presentation which provided valuable advice and guidance around how to find work in the construction industry.”
Her sentiments were echoed by Nabeela Akhtar, who said: “It was great to get more information on the construction industry. I’ve never really thought about working this field but will definitely look into it now.”
Barry Rajabian added: “I found it very insightful and it opened my mind to new opportunities within the construction sector,” while Kyle Lovell commented, “I found this morning’s session to be informative regarding the pathways into construction.”
The session was organised by the North Birmingham Economic Recovery Task Force. Partnership co-ordinator Jobeda Shahed said: “It was great to be able to bring something ‘so real’ to the community. Alex went through his journey in the Construction field with real passion and Emma outlined the opportunities available through Peddimore, explaining the routeways into the field.
“Jobseekers who attended provided really positive feedback too.”
