A new community initiative is helping to reinvigorate the North Birmingham landscape and unearth a new generation of active gardeners.

The Love Where You Live project is the brainchild of Linda Hackett, founder member of popular Perry Common walking group the Red Hot Chilli Steppers.

Over the last 12 months the scheme has seen hundreds of local people – of all ages and from all backgrounds – come together to clean-up communal gardens, pathways and children’s play areas.

More than 250 bags of litter have been collected while overgrown trees, hedges and flowerbeds have been trimmed and tidied to improve the aesthetic appeal of where they sit.

“It’s all about bringing people together in such a way that they share a positive and productive experience by improving the look and feel of where they live,” said Linda.

“Community is at the very heart of what Love Where You Live is all about. We work together to extend and redesign the infrastructure in a way that helps people feel proud.

“We’ve people of all ages, from five to 75, making a positive contribution to the future of North Birmingham. What could be better.”
