We are very pleased to report that the Lakeside Children’s Centre in Wyrley Birch will remain open.  The decision was announced on Monday evening (16^th October).

The popular centre on Wyrley Way, just opposite the T Blocks in Wyrley Birch, was one of 26 across the city, scheduled for closure.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of local people, local organisations and our local MP, this important community space will stay open.  To show the level of support for Lakeside, over a petition of over 1,000 names was collected in just 3 days – and was presented to Downing Street by a delegation of local representatives.

Lakeside staying open is very positive news for everyone in the local area and especially for the residents of Wyrley Birch, as it is the only community facility locally.  If Lakeside had closed, the area would not have any community venues whatsoever.
