Oh Deer!
Always a popular, well-used park; Witton Lakes has a new and unexpected guest arrive. It came during the night and doesn’t want to leave.
On Tuesday 26th September, a magnificent Red Deer turned up in the park. Nobody knows how it got there (it’s a shame we can’t ask it), but it seems to be enjoying itself roaming around. And who can blame it. It’s a big park, with 2 big lakes and trees to shelter under.
We were told about this by the Friends Of Witton Lakes, who have been working with the Birmingham Park Rangers and the RSPCA to see what they can do next to help the animal.
They managed to coax it into woodland, so that it will not be spooked by people using the park, but as of yet, nobody seems to be in agreement about how to catch it.
We’re just waiting on news about this.

On the subject of Witton Lakes, we have another great event coming up in the park.
On Saturday 30th September, the City Of Birmingham Orienteering Club will be hosting a Family Fun Day; 1 – 2:30pm.
They have made 4 different routes around the park, with fun orienteering activities. Its great fun and a great way for the children to learn about map reading and other useful outdoor skills.
Please see the poster below for more details. You may even be joined by our new park guest!
