The Ring at Perry Common was buzzing with activity on Saturday 13^th May, at this year’s Spring Into Spring Festival.

Despite the weather reports, we had a dry day with just a few showers – but these did not deter the crowds of people who came along and enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon.

With Bouncy Castle and Inflatables, Live Music, Stalls, Fruit and Herb Planting (encouraging everyone locally to get active and eat healthy), lots to eat, Fun Games (including Sack and Egg-and-Spoon Racing) and lots more; there was something to keep all ages entertained.

The Birmingham Mail Vintage Van was also a big attraction.  The eye-catching van was parked outside T & J News on The Ring, selling copies of the Birmingham Mail and giving away free goodie-bags.  Everyone enjoyed having their photo taken in the van, with a vintage hat.

There were activities at Enderby Park, with the Birmingham Play Care Network and St Martin’s Church Hall was also buzzing, with Dance Exhibitions and a great opportunity to see the plans for the new housing and park development in Perry Common.  Perry Common Community Hall was also buzzing with people buying freshly baked jacket potatoes, straight from the potato oven.

New for this year, and a big hoot, was the Owl Man, who bought along a fantastic selection of owls and other birds of prey.  It was a great opportunity for everyone to see the birds up ‘very’ close, learn about their life and conservation efforts and to hold them.

Holding the owls, Lola, age 7 said: “It’s the best day I’ve had.  I really like holding the owls.”  Her brother Aaron, age 10, agreed, saying “This is really good fun.  I am really enjoying the day.”

Paul Tse, Community Development Officer at Witton Lodge Community Association says: “It was a wonderful day.  We were delighted to see crowds of people, of all ages, enjoying themselves and taking part in all the activities.  I would like to say Thank You to everyone who helped organise the event, in particular our wonderful volunteers, stallholders and to everyone who came along.   A big Thank You also to Heart Of England Community Foundation for their support in awarding us £2,500 to host the event.”
