Erdington Neighbourhood Network Scheme (ENNS) recently hosted a Volunteer Recruitment Fair at St Barnabas Church.

Showcasing current volunteering opportunities and pathways to training and qualifications, yesterday’s event featured more than 20 local organisations and community groups. Among those attending to meet with local residents were teams from Erdington Litter Busters, New Hope Global, Bold Actions, Urban Devotion Birmingham and Number 7 Arts.

BENEFITS

Dozens of people attended the event to learn about the benefits of volunteering and speak to the groups about how they can access suitable opportunities.

The event was split into two sessions. During the first, ENNS Coordinator, Fauzia Begum, delivered a presentation which highlighted the impact that volunteering can have on the individual.

“When you volunteer you develop new skills, you benefit from new experiences, you can make new friends and increase your confidence and wellbeing,” she said.

SPEAKERS

We were delighted to welcome a number of current Witton Lodge volunteers, including Linda Hackett who leads the popular Red Hot Chilli Steppers walking group, and Theresa Senior, a local resident who supports the team and community at Witton Lakes Eco Hub.

Both of these amazing volunteers spoke about their experiences and how much their lives have been enriched thanks to volunteering.  You can hear firsthand from Linda & Theresa about their volunteering experience HERE

Following lunch, a networking session gave people the chance to talk directly with the volunteer groups in attendance and find out about the variety of fantastic opportunities they had to offer; which included gardening, repairs & maintenance, arts and administration.
