This week we marked a triumphant conclusion to our Social Enterprise Programme, celebrating the remarkable achievements of our inspiring attendees alongside special guests. This initiative, designed to nurture local entrepreneurship and foster community development across North Birmingham, was a key component of Witton Lodge’s leadership in the Social Enterprise Cluster for Birmingham, part of the WMCA’s Social Economy Growth Programme.

Over the course of several months, our programme, supported by Learning & Development specialist Rickie Josen, delivered a series of engaging workshops and networking opportunities. These sessions provided a platform for entrepreneurs, micro and small social enterprises, and community groups in North Birmingham to collaborate and grow.

The final session was a showcase of talent and growth, with participants presenting two-minute pitches of their businesses to fellow cohort members and guests Troy Yeomans, Destination Manager at The Fort Shopping Centre, and Iram Fardus, Head of Business Development & Performance at Witton Lodge Community Association (WLCA).

Sustainable Business Models

Rickie Josen shared her thoughts on the programme “It’s been great to work with Witton Lodge on this social enterprise programme and I am so proud to work with and support this cohort of attendees. Witnessing the evolution of their ideas throughout the programme has been truly rewarding. We focused on developing sustainable business models and crafting compelling value propositions to help transform their initial concepts into viable enterprises. The final session was particularly inspiring, as we watched their polished pitches and saw the remarkable progress they’ve made – their growth and determination have been nothing short of impressive.”

Troy Yeomans said “I was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional quality of the pitches presented today. Each aspiring entrepreneur delivered a remarkable presentation, and it was a pleasure to attend the session and connect with the participants  and gain insight into the remarkable talent we have in our local communities.”

This programme is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in fostering economic growth and social development. By providing aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and networks they need to succeed, we’re not just building businesses – we’re building a stronger, more resilient North Birmingham.

Iram Fardus of WLCA shared her enthusiasm for the initiative “It’s been a real privilege to support enterprise and entrepreneurship across North Birmingham. Our initial conversations began back in March/April 2024, and it’s been amazing to witness the growth and progress of these incredible individuals since then.

“Huge congratulations to Denise, Portland, Derrick, Aida, Danielle, and Dwayne on their outstanding achievement in completing the programme. Watching their pitches was truly inspiring—it reflected the passion, dedication, and hard work each of them has put into developing their ventures.

“I’m genuinely excited to see how their ideas continue to grow and flourish, and I look forward to following their journeys as they shape the future of enterprise in our communities.”

Time to Reflect

As we reflect on the success of this programme, we’re filled with hope and optimism for the future of our local entrepreneurial ecosystem. The creativity, determination, and passion displayed by our participants are clear indicators that North Birmingham is on the cusp of an exciting new chapter in social enterprise and community development.
