We are proud to celebrate Social Prescribing Day and highlight the invaluable work of social prescribers and their impact on community health and wellbeing.

The Power of Social Prescribing

Social prescribing is a holistic approach that connects individuals with non-medical support services in their community. It addresses a wide range of needs, from mental health and social isolation to physical activity and employment. By linking people with local resources and activities, social prescribers help individuals take control of their health and wellbeing, fostering a more empowered and resilient community.

At Witton Lodge, our social prescribers are at the heart of our mission to provide personalised non-medical care and support. They embody the true spirit of social prescribing by working closely with residents to understand the unique needs of each individual. With dedication and compassion, they offer tailored support, connecting people with the right services and opportunities that address their specific social, emotional, and practical needs.

Kirsty Maxfield, Health & Wellbeing Co-ordinator at Witton Lodge said “The Erdington Health & Wellbeing Hub has emerged as an essential community resource, offering a comprehensive range of vital, non-clinical services designed to support residents holistically. Social Prescribing has become a cornerstone of the Hub’s approach and we have experienced a significant surge in demand.

“The Hub provides a one-stop destination for individuals seeking support across multiple areas, including health and wellbeing activities, housing assistance, employment guidance, benefits advice, and energy efficiency consultations.”

One local resident that was referred to Witton Lodge for Social Prescribing said  “Thanks so much for reaching out and thanks so much for looking after me. It’s really amazing the job that you do and I look forward to connecting with the (recommended) services tomorrow. Thanks again for everything.”

Alongside the wider team at Witton Lodge, our Social Prescribing team take a holistic approach, supporting individuals to take control of their health and wellbeing. We recognise that health is influenced by a wide range of factors beyond medical care, including social connections, economic stability, and environmental conditions. Through our work, we help bridge the gap between healthcare services and community-based support, fostering a sense of belonging and improving overall quality of life.
