Witton Lodge Community Association (WLCA) had the pleasure of hosting a team from BMet College who generously volunteered their time to support maintenance work at the Witton Lakes Eco Hub.

The team made a fantastic contribution during their time on site by cleaning and preserving an external wall and improving the Eco Hub pathways.

Practical Support

The work they put in will help to enhance the overall environment and boost the Eco Hub experience for local residents and visitors alike.

Flourishing Communities Services Manager at WLCA, Shane Wedderburn, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the team from BMet and we are very grateful for the work they carried out at the Eco Hub.

“It’s a timely reminder that our community plays a vital role in helping us maintain and protect a space that everyone can enjoy.”

Stephen Belling, Company Secretary for BMet at Matthew Boulton College, was among those digging in. He enjoys his own special connection with Witton Lodge.

A Growing Legacy

“I was a part of the project team setting up Witton lodge Community Association right back in 1994,” he said.

“So it was a special privilege to spend the day at the Witton Lakes Eco Hub, painting, weeding and reflecting on how Witton Lodge has grown over the years and remained true to the local community, being at the centre of everything that is done locally.”

His college colleagues, Lisa Hutchinson and Leona Fisher, also reflected on the day of volunteering.

“It’s a wonderful, idyllic spot, shaped and sustained by the community, right in the heart of our city,” said Lisa, while Leona commented: “I was surprised to find such a beautiful place not far from my home. The staff were so welcoming and it is such a wonderful resource for the local community. I will be back soon with some plants and to further explore!”
