Monday August 11th

Woke up and saw the sun beaming down, what a lovely day, I can’t stay in the house with the weather like this. I saw there were some activities on at Witton Lakes Eco Hub including painting. It was really cool, I felt like a grown up, helping the team there paint the walls of their new building. There was a great atmosphere with people playing sports in the grounds too.

Luckily I didn’t get any paint on my clothes!! The arts and crafts sessions in the afternoon were great too.

Tuesday August 12th

Mum always tells me to eat my vegetables at dinner time, but I don’t. But I have to say after today, being at Witton Lakes Eco Hub to learn how to plant carrots and Coriander, I might start to eat my veggies!

I had so much fun and found out just how good vegetables are for you!

The lady who was helping us put our pots together, Tracy, she knew everything we asked about gardening and made it all sound so much fun. I’m gonna buy some new pots with my pocket money!

There was also a lady who had never planted her own seeds before and she was saying how great it was and that she was so excited to see what happens. She had taken a photo of her pots and said she was going to let everyone know how she gets on.

Wednesday August 13th

Today we got closer to nature on Duckling Watch; walking around the Lakes to get a closer look at the wildlife. There were some ducks with their babies, it was so cute watching them swim along together, some of the babies were riding on their mum’s backs, not a care in the world, looking so happy with life and peaceful. We saw some swans too, they’re beautiful when you see them up close, a bit scary too! There was a lot of different birds building nests in the trees. I learned a lot today about the animals on Witton Lakes.

Thursday August 14th

Today was very interesting. I got to see some volunteers working in the Orchard, they demolished the raised beds, repainted some metal benches and even made a new playground area using car tyres! There was a Scavenger Hunt too where we had to go and find things around the gardens that were connected to Bulls. I did get a bit dirty doing this but it was good fun. There was also a creative workshop where we got to make our own bulls masks and colour them in. One little boy said he was so excited after doing the scavenger hunt and colouring, he was going to go home with apples from the orchard to make an apple crumble!

Friday August 15th

The week ended in the sunshine with everyone playing games, even some of the Mums and Dads.

There was Connect 4, Archery and Swingball outside and inside the Eco Hub there was table tennis, chess and jigsaw puzzles. Some of us even found a football to kick around!
