Monday August 4th

Woke up today feeling creative, so trotted off down to Witton Lakes Eco Hub for the start of Witton Lodge Community Association’s Active August event; a whole month of fun learning and engagement activities, starting with an Arts and Crafts session.

Had the best day, it’s a beautiful place and everyone was having fun and letting their Craft Workshop - Mon 4th Augimaginations run free. The lady in charge was called Sabrina, she was really lovely, so nice and helpful. One young lad got to make his very own Captain America Shield. He told me, “I love Captain America,” so when it was time for us all to leave he was so excited to take it home and show his friends and family.

Tuesday August 5th

Today was the Bangers n Mash food event which I was really looking forward to and it didn’t disappoint. They Bangers n Mash - 5th Augshowed us all how to makes pancakes, pizzas, noodles, fruit desserts and smoothies too, it was great fun and I learned a lot of new things about cooking, nutrition and healthy eating. We even got to taste some of each others food and swap recipes. It was messy but we were wearing aprons so that was okay. One of the parents even proclaimed: “This is the best experience I’ve had in the summer holiday.” All in all it was flippin’ marvellous.

Wednesday August 6th

I like playing in my garden but I’ve never given much thought to the plants and greenery that are there. But today’s Plant & Grow workshop really opened my eyes. We all took turns to plant flowers and even some Plant and Grow - 6th Augvegetables and then we joined together to learn about the different herbs you can grow. The man in charge then gave us instructions  on the conditions needed to grow courgettes and runner-beans. We also got shown how to use compost. It was a lovely activity and so nice to get closer to nature.

Thursday August 7th

Today we had a planting and growing workshop which was all about gardening. We got to understand how to plant flowers and vegetables; I didn’t think growing your own food could be so much fun! We also found out about all the different herbs that you can find in your garden. The best bit was being able to seed our own pots. I brought mine home to take care of and watch my flowers grow!
