After four years of hard work and continued commitment to support the regeneration of Erdington High Street, WLCA is delighted that Birmingham City Council (which owns the building) will be funding £2m to match the commitment from the West Midlands Combined Authority to help facilitate the transformation of the former swimming baths on Mason Road, Erdington.

Our plans to transform the derelict, Victorian baths into a state-of-the-art Community & Enterprise Hub will provide a much-needed facility to benefit and support Erdington residents through the creation of jobs and skills. It is our ethos to harness and encourage the local talent we have in our communities by providing a welcoming space to establish and grow their businesses and skills, right in the heart of Erdington. Many generations have grown up enjoying Erdington Baths and we are committed to restoring this important local landmark into a beacon of hope and opportunity for local residents and businesses alike.

Afzal Hussain, Chief Officer of Witton Lodge Community Association said “We are thrilled that we have now secured the funding to kickstart our ambitious plans to transform this important site in Erdington.

“This has been a passion project for everyone involved and we especially want to thank the local community for their support throughout the process. We are excited to make our vision a reality for the people of Erdington to enjoy.”

Erdington Baths, which are almost a century old, have stood empty since they were closed in 2014, when they were replaced with a modern pool and leisure centre nearby. Work to regenerate the former Erdington Baths into a community and enterprise hub is expected to begin later this year.

The first phase of the multi-million-pound regeneration will see the main reception area and pool hall converted into a co-working space, studio pods, events and meeting rooms, and the roof restored. Other essential repairs will also be completed. A second phase, to follow, will add a restaurant/café, creche and smaller offices. Once fully occupied the hub will create and support up to 80 local jobs.
