Karl’s New Lease of Life at Sycamore Court
Sycamore Court resident Karl Fletcher is enjoying a new lease of life after moving into his new apartment in June.
The 57-year-old, who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy, said his physical and mental wellbeing has improved enormously since taking up residence at the Buxton Road venue.
The motor car fanatic, who counts a Ford Capri and Mercedes among his collection, first approached Witton Lodge for social prescribing support and hasn’t looked back since.
“Three months ago I was living in a tower block, 3-floors up, with no lift, I didn’t leave the property for 8 weeks,” he said.
“But having met wellbeing officer Fauzia for help with my benefits I was told about Sycamore Court and how it could help me.
“Now, I have my own flat, my own space to enjoy, support from caring staff and the chance to make friends and get involved in activities.
“The difference living here is immense. My health has improved significantly. There are lots of amenities in the community, I also get out and enjoy a walk around the Sycamore garden.
“It was a no-brainer coming here, it really is another world and I would tell anyone who is thinking of applying for an apartment, do it. Whatever they pay the staff here, it’s not enough.”
