Breathe Easier: New Pharmacist Support Service at Erdington Wellbeing Hub

Our Erdington Wellbeing Hub is thrilled to introduce a fantastic new Pharmacist Support Service focused on helping people to quit smoking and access essential support.

A dedicated smoking cessation practitioner from 5 Ways Pharmacy is now based at the Hub at 196 Erdington High Street to deliver personalised help for those who need it.

One-to-one Support

From the 12th of January 2026, every two weeks from 2-4pm, people can receive face-to-face Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) support through confidential 15-minute appointments. (We strongly recommend booking in advance, though walk-ins are welcome depending on availability).

Health & Wellbeing Coordinator at Witton Lodge, Kirstie Maxfield, said: The NRT offer is comprehensive and includes a range of options like vapes, patches, gum, lozenges and melts, or even a tailored combination, depending on the needs of the individual.

“We’re delighted to offer this extremely affordable service to smokers across all wards in Erdington and Sutton Coldfield. If you pay for your prescriptions, there’s just a one-off prescription charge for the entire course of NRT. Additionally, if you’re eligible for free NHS prescriptions, the NRT is provided at no charge whatsoever.”

Remote Support

This brand-new service also offers two huge benefits in the form of remote support and free delivery.

For people who are housebound, are struggling financially or have accessibility issues, Witton Lodge has connected with Pharmastrat to implement remote referrals.

Once referred by the Wellbeing Hub, people will be contacted within 24 hours.

They can receive an NRT e-voucher to use at a local pharmacy or have the medication posted directly to their home (which should arrive within 2-3 days).

Whether people see the pharmacist in person or use the remote service, they can benefit from a free delivery service. This will be particularly useful for people who work and are unable to pick up their medication during the day.

A New Way to Support People

“The new pharmacist support service is a game-changer because it prioritises people’s convenience and privacy,” added Kirstie.

“It is an easy, low-cost way to access professional, dedicated support and the products you need to quit smoking for good. You receive expert guidance, a range of effective NRT choices and the flexibility of both in-person and remote support.”

Effective Support

This new service supplements Witton Lodge’s smoking cessation programme, Break The Habit which was launched to support smokers across Erdington and Sutton Coldfield to quit.

Smokers can register to join Break The Habit at anytime and will be supported for a period of up to six-weeks. They can choose their own quit date and will be guided to successfully achieve it through the programme’s bespoke health and lifestyle options.

Launched in conjunction with Public Health Birmingham and Birmingham City Council, Break The Habit looks at the participants’ current situation in order to set achievable goals to help them quit.  To register for Break the Habit please click HERE.
