The January Issue of Erdington Local is Out Now!

Erdington Health and Wellbeing Hub

This month, our focus is on the Erdington Health and Wellbeing Hub, which has become a vital resource in our community since its launch in 2021.

Located at 196 High Street, Erdington, the Hub has welcomed over 4,000 visitors between April 2023 and March 2024. This impressive number contrasts sharply with recent reports highlighting a decline in foot traffic to the high street due to safety concerns.

The Erdington Health and Wellbeing Hub is operated by Witton Lodge Community Association in partnership with NHS Property Services. Here, we offer essential support services, including Social Prescribing, employment advice, and health and wellbeing assistance. Our volunteer-led activities, such as Tea with Tina and Wendy’s Arts & Crafts, create an inviting atmosphere for residents to socialise and connect.

By bringing together key partners like Shelter, Birmingham City Council Adult Social Care, and Occupational Therapists, we have created a collaborative approach which ensures that we address the diverse needs of our residents while working to reduce health inequalities in our community. By empowering individuals to make positive lifestyle changes and access the necessary support, we aim to help the enhancement of overall wellbeing.

Beyond individual support, the Hub plays a crucial role in alleviating the pressure on broader healthcare and social support systems.

Afzal Hussain, Chief Officer at WLCA, shared his thoughts on the Hub’s impact: “We’re delighted that this Hub has been successfully providing residents with essential services for over three years. Our commitment to supporting Erdington Town Centre is unwavering, and it’s vital that we keep this Hub at the heart of the High Street. Alongside our community efforts, West Midlands Police’s ‘Operation Fearless’ is making significant progress in enhancing local safety, which aligns perfectly with our mission to support and protect the Erdington community.”

The success of the Health and Wellbeing Hub is a testament to the resilience and unity of the Erdington community. We remain dedicated to delivering vital services for our community and look forward to continuing our support for years to come.
