More than a dozen of Birmingham’s most community focussed organisations joined forces at a special networking event today.

This morning’s event, hosted by Witton Lodge Community Organisation, was organised by Birmingham Partners to share ideas and examples of problem solving and celebrate the work that’s being done across the city to inspire people.

Among those groups attending the meeting were Aston Matters, Urban Devotion and Boldmere Mums.

Linda Hines, MBE, Director at Witton Lodge Community Association, opened proceedings by recounting the history of Perry Common and how the Association had been established to empower people in a bid to help facilitate positive change.

The Association’s Homes and Property Manager, Gareth Hopkins, was among those taking part in today’s networking event.

“I attended this morning’s meeting to promote the Birmingham Community Homes Enabler Hub which Witton Lodge Community Association is significantly involved with,” he said.

“I wanted to bring the project to the attention of community organisations who are interested in developing community-led housing in their area.

“Today proved to be a very worthwhile exercise. I was made aware of several neighbourhood management projects which could be replicated in Perry Common.”

Birmingham Partners had organised the meeting in an effort to combine and share resources and expertise that can make a positive difference to the lives of all those who live and work in Birmingham.

One of the Birmingham Partners, Diane Kemp, who facilitated this morning’s event, said: “Today has been brilliant. It was all about bringing people together, opening new networks which can help create even greater community cohesion for an ultimately better Birmingham.”
