Born and bred in Germany, Lisa moved to England in 2018 determined to put her passion for people to good use.
The 57-year-old mother-of-four arrived here with an impressive CV having also gleaned experience as a teaching and library assistant, private language tutor and end-of-life carer.
“My curiosity for other cultures saw me work in roles in different countries and also helped me to flourish as an Outreach Coordinator in a student village,” she said.
“But even though I’d gained plenty of experience and skills over the years, when I came to England I arrived with no certificates or diplomas.”
In time, Lisa re-married, and found employment as a housekeeper and receptionist. However, a restricting physical condition meant she was unable to continue in the role. That is when she first knocked on the Witton Lodge door.
“When my ailments made my job unbearable, I visited Witton Lodge Community Association for consultation,” added Lisa.
“Following an initial conversation where I got the chance to talk through my skills and ambitions, I received an email from Employment & Engagement Officer, Dellano, inviting me to take part in a Facebook Live social interaction session.
“In addition, the Association’s Employment and Skills Tutor, Nargas, got in touch with me and encouraged me to discuss the opportunities they had around volunteering and training as I’d expressed an interest in learning new skills
“It was following these discussions that Witton Lodge offered me some formal training and a volunteering role with their organisation. The focus of the role is remote working via digital platforms such as Zoom, Whats App and Facebook to support local residents during the lockdown period imposed as a result of Coronavirus.
“I am very confident that this training, combined with the invaluable work experience as a volunteer, will support my ambitions for the future, where I’d love to work once again as an outreach coordinator.
“I am already feeling more optimistic and excited about my employment prospects, thanks to the advice and support I have received from Witton Lodge and the opportunity they are giving me.”
