The MP for Erdington has paid tribute to all those involved in the attempt, which aims to break the world record for the largest wreath ever made, and has said he intends to nominate the project for a Groundwork Community Award to recognise the fantastic effort of all those involved.

Led by Witton Lodge Community Association, volunteers from across Erdington have come together over the past two days in an attempt to break the world record for the largest wreath.

An announcement is expected this afternoon on whether the attempt has been successful in breaking the world record and there is a real sense of excitement in the local community.

Jack Dromey MP has hailed the efforts as “another fine example of our community pulling together to achieve something remarkable” and said that a project like this has been much needed after such a tough year.

He also vowed to nominate the project for a Groundwork Community Award to recognise the “fantastic work” that has gone into this world record attempt.

Mr Dromey, Member of Parliament for Birmingham Erdington, said: “This is fantastic initiative that has brought together people from across our community to create a wonderful good news story. I always say that Erdington is rich in talent, and projects like this prove it.

“This year has been a tough one for everyone, with the Covid pandemic presenting some of the greatest challenges in living memory. But one thing that has struck me throughout this pandemic is the strength of our community here in Erdington.

“This project is another fine example of our community pulling together to achieve something remarkable. I’d like to pay tribute to all of those involved in the organisation of this effort, and I will be nominating the project for a Groundwork Community Award in recognition of the fantastic work that has been done.”
