A Summer Afternoon Of Delights
We are delighted to say that we raised a whopping £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, during an Afternoon Tea with a slight difference.
We welcomed a big crowd outside Perry Common Community Hall on Friday 23rd June, for the impressive ‘street party’ event, organised by volunteer Margaret Mulhall – who had not stopped working to arrange the festivities for weeks.
It really was a super afternoon tea with all the trimmings; with china teacups and teapots, cakes and scones, jam, boxes of strawberries and lashings of clotted cream. And as a bonus, the weather stayed dry too. There were different groups of people arriving all afternoon.
Local resident Vic, said that “Everyone really seems to be enjoying themselves, with great food and great conversation. It’s a great afternoon and well done to the community.”
These positive words were also echoed by carer Shreen from the Perry Tree Centre, who had come along for the afternoon with a big group of residents. She said “This is the third year we have come. The ladies and I are really enjoying themselves.”
Margaret Mullhall, who has organised the event for the third year running says: “We’ve had a really good day, raised £500 and all had a great time. The weather stayed dry, though it was a bit breezy; we had to sellotape the table cloths down. The event gets bigger and bigger each year and we raised an impressive £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. A great big Thank You to everyone who came along and donated, and to my wonderful team of volunteers who never stopped working all afternoon.”
