This amazing space can be found at Witton Lakes, where behind a large red brick wall lies a beautiful urban orchard and garden, with everything from mature fruit trees, vegetables, flowers and herbs. This wonderful space began life in 2009 thanks to funding from Velvet Toilet Tissue and with lots of hard work from the Friends of Witton Lakes, the site has been transformed from a storage area for the Parks Department to the impressive space it is today.
There’s always something really tasty ready to pick – with regular deliveries to local Food Banks.
Orchard Tea Room
When you’re at Witton Lakes and fancy a warm drink and slice of cake, then come into our new Orchard Tea Room. The Tea Room can be found at the Velvet Community Orchard, just inside the green gates at the dividing path between the two lakes.
The opening times for the Orchard Tea Room are:
- Monday’s: 12-4pm
- Friday 9am-12 midday
Orchard Open Days
These are many Orchard Open Days held throughout the year. It’s a fun and interesting way to see the Velvet Community Orchard; learn about what’s growing and get stuck into some fun activities.
There are no Open Days scheduled, but please keep checking our website, as there will be new dates announced in Spring 2017.
Friends Of Witton Lakes
The Friends of Witton Lakes do a wonderful job looking after Witton Lakes, organising events such as the very popular Wyrley Festival Of Fun and Open Days at the Velvet Community Orchard. One of their projects is Duckling Watch, where group members take local schools to learn about the wildfowl at the lakes and check that all is well.
This really is an excellent opportunity to get involved in your local community and help protect and enhance our local environment. To get involved call Linda on 07960 386252 or email Linda.Hines@wittonlodge.org.uk.
