Witton Lodge Community Association runs a range of employment skills and training courses for people seeking a new job and those wanting to boost their employability and career prospects.

Local resident and single-mum Georgia approached us for help after being unemployed for a number of years.

Struggling on benefits, her confidence and self esteem took a dive and despite her best efforts to try and find work she struggled to access and engage with the support organisations within reach.

Following an initial call from our Homes & Assets team, Georgia was identified as being in urgent need of help and she was referred to our Employment & Skills team who discussed her needs so that appropriate training could be tailored for her.

We began regular contact with her in order to improve her motivation and self belief while also helping to create a new CV which would assist her search for the kind of job she wanted. Georgia also enrolled on a training course in customer service with us.

Our Employment & Skills work is funded by West Midlands Combined Authority Adult Education Budget.

After working with the team for a while, she identified a role which was ideal for her. As a single parent the hours on offer did not suit her daily schedule (taking her children to and from school) so the Employment team negotiated with the company and asked them to consider a part-time role for Georgia. An interview was arranged soon after for which she received interview skills tuition from us. Following the interview she was offered and accepted the job!

“I now feel a lot more confident in myself, my self-belief has come back and my general wellbeing has improved significantly, she said.

“I am now looking forward to a positive and happy future.”
